KU loses second straight WUBS… 7-8th place deciding game
Korea University loses its second straight game in the WUBS.
Korea University lost 50-59 against Tokai University in the 온라인카지노 World University Basketball Series (WUBS) at Gymnasium 2 of the National Yoyogi Stadium in Tokyo, Japan on Wednesday.
The tournament features eight university teams from seven countries, including host Japan, South Korea, the United States, Australia, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
After losing in the quarterfinals on the first day, Korea University went on to play in the championship game. However, they also lost the first game of the ranking match against Tokai University. KU will wrap up the tournament with the seventh and eighth place games at 11 a.m. on the 13th.
In the absence of Moon Jung-hyun, who was called up to the adult national basketball team, KU started Park Mubin, Park Jung-hwan, Kim Tae-hoon, Lee Dong-geun, and Yang Jun.
KU played a fierce defense against Tokai University. KU opened with three points from Kim Tae-hoon and Park Jung-hwan. In response, Tokai University capitalized on their offense after causing errors.
Ending the first quarter with a 13-10 lead thanks to a three-pointer from Park, KU struggled to score in the second quarter due to Tokai University’s stifling defense. Tokai University countered with an under-the-basket attack that turned the game around. The first half ended with the score 29-28 in favor of Tokai University.
In the second half, the two teams played a seesaw game of low-scoring battles, with Tokai University taking the lead by focusing on attacking the rim through dribble penetration.
KU, which kept trailing by a small margin, pulled within 48-50 midway through the fourth quarter with a basket by Yoon Ki-chan. However, the defense immediately gave up a step-back three to Harper John Lawrence Jr. and another three to Lawrence Jr. with just over three minutes left in regulation to cut the deficit to 48-56.
KU defeated Tokai University’s John Press with a quick bucket from Yang Jun to pull within 50-56 after regulation and forced a 3-2 zone defense.
However, a missed mid-range shot by Park Jung-hwan and a turnover by Moon Jung-hyun prevented the team from capitalizing on the opportunity, and they conceded a corner 3-pointer to Tokai University with 59 seconds left in regulation, falling behind 50-59.
