Korea Volleyball Association “apologizes to volleyball fans…replaces both men’s and women’s head coaches”
The Korean Volleyball Association has issued an apology.
The Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games turned out to be a nightmare for volleyball. Both the men’s team, led by Lim Do-heon, and the women’s team, led by 텍사스홀덤 Cesar Hernandez, failed to win a medal.
The Korean Volleyball Association issued an apology on Aug. 8 in the name of its president Oh Hannam. “The Korean Volleyball Association is very sorry for the poor performance of the national volleyball team in recent international competitions, including the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, and would like to apologize to the Korean public and volleyball fans who supported the team,” the organization said.
“Currently, the tenure of Men’s National Team Head Coach Lim Do-heon has ended after the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games, and Women’s National Team Head Coach Cesar has mutually agreed to terminate his contract as it is no longer feasible for him to compete at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.”
“We would like to organize a public hearing in November this year, involving members of the media, volleyball experts, sports professionals and volleyball fans. Through this process, we will humbly accept and reflect on the criticisms and rebukes from all walks of life, as well as set the direction of the organization to improve the national team’s performance. We will do our best to select the best coaches to improve the national team’s performance. We will also spare no effort to support the national team players to perform at their best.”
Apology from the Korean Volleyball Association (full text)
Greetings to all volleyball fans and the Korean public.
The Korea Volleyball Association (KVA) is deeply sorry for the poor performance of the national volleyball team at recent international competitions, including the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games, and would like to apologize to the public and volleyball fans for their support.
Currently, the term of the men’s national team coach Lim Do-heon has ended after the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, and the women’s national team coach Cesar has mutually agreed to terminate his contract as it has become difficult for the team to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics. In addition, the head of the men’s and women’s performance improvement committee has taken responsibility for the poor performance and tendered his resignation.
Going forward, the Korean Volleyball Association will take a hard look at the direction of the national team and draw a new picture to qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles and 2032 Brisbane Olympics.
Starting with the KVB, we will establish and implement a mid- to long-term development plan to help Korean volleyball go through growing pains and be reborn.
First, we will hold a public hearing this November with the media, volleyball experts, sports professionals, volleyball fans, and other outsiders. Through this hearing, we will humbly accept and reflect on the criticisms and reprimands from all walks of life to improve the national team’s performance, as well as set the direction of the organization.
In addition, we will make every effort to select the optimal coach to improve the national team’s performance, and we will spare no effort to support the national team players to showcase their best performance.
We will do our utmost to make Korean volleyball shine once again on the international stage. We ask for the continued interest and support of volleyball fans and the Korean public.
